CARMEN

BIZET    Meihac and Halevy after Merimee

Carmen is the most popular opera of all time, and this thrilling new production of Bizet's tale of passion, obsession and tragedy will arouse your senses like never before. The timeless story of Carmen, who values her freedom above all else, has enduring appeal.

Film director Sally Potter, who won international acclaim for her Oscar-nominated Orlando,  collaborates with tango star and choreographer Pablo Veron to incorporate an exhilarating dance dimension, and with designer Es Devlin to create an extraordinary visual spectacle.

With some of the most entrancing and instantly recognizable music in all opera, Bizet's sparkling score brims with famous melodies including the sultry Habanera, the rhythmic Seguidilla, Chanson Bohème and the vibrant 'Toreador' and 'Flower' songs. ENO Music Director Edward Gardner is joined by an international cast, with Alice Coote in her role debut.
